1. One big thing: Redlands scores $95K community boost
What’s Happening
Redland City Council has allocated over $95,000 in sponsorship funding to ten events through the first round of its 2024–2025 program.
Why It Matters
From cultural celebrations to sports tournaments, the funding backs initiatives that strengthen community bonds and stimulate the economy.
These sponsorships foster social connection and cultural vibrancy, spotlighting the rich diversity of Redlands Coast.
By the Numbers
• $95K+ awarded in Round 1.
• 3 funding tiers: Major ($30K), Minor ($15K), and Quandamooka Cultural Awareness ($1.5K).
• Ten events supported in total that will be spanning cultural, sports, and social initiatives.
Local Impact
Events like Capalaba’s Diwali celebrations and the Straddie Salute Triathlon unite locals and visitors while funding for Quandamooka Cultural Awareness enriches understanding of Indigenous heritage.

Mayor Mitchell encouraged participation, saying, “I thank the groups that have already delivered events this financial year and encourage others to begin preparing their application for the next funding round.”

3. Reel in the 2025 with the Gold Coast All-Species Classic
What’s Happening
Just down the road from the Redlands, the 2025 Gold Coast All-Species Classic is back and will be hitting the water on 18–19 January.
Why It Matters
Hosted by the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club, the two-day competition invites anglers of all levels to compete across inshore and offshore categories—or just inshore if weather dictates.
It’s an epic event promoting sustainable fishing, fostering community spirit, and celebrating Queensland’s first-class marine biodiversity.
By the Numbers
• $95 entry fee (just $50 for juniors).
• 8 species categories like Mangrove Jack and Mahi Mahi.
• Teams of 2–3 anglers over two days.
Local Impact
The catch-and-release format supports conservation, while clubhouse presentations boost local engagement and camaraderie amongst one of the city’s most popular recreational activities.
