1. One Big Thing: Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race Hits Town

What’s Happening
From January 24 to February 1, MATES Theatre Genesis will bring Melanie Tait’s “spudtacular” ‘The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race’ to the Donald Simpson Centre.
Why It Matters
MATES Theatre Genesis, the Redlands Coast’s longest-running community theatre since 1990, is a volunteer-run group that fosters an inclusive performing arts community, offering opportunities for all skill levels to participate on stage, backstage, or front of house.

2. Mirrabooka Ferry set to launch soon
SeaLink Bay Islands is preparing to welcome the Mirrabooka, a new custom-built vehicle ferry, following its sea trials and crew training.
The ferry features a 5-lane deck accommodating 38–44 cars and offers modern amenities, including a wheelchair-accessible lounge, café, and quiet travel experience.
The Mirrabooka will significantly enhance transport for the community by doubling vehicle ferry capacity and reducing wait times.
Councillor Shane Rendalls toured the ferry in Yamba, praising its spacious passenger lounge, top-deck views, and state-of-the-art design.
The community eagerly anticipates its arrival, marking a new era of efficient and reliable transport for the region.
